Which brand is best for oil painting?

Frequently my students ask me so. I think it depends on your own expressions and I cannot say “this is the best choice! “. Actually when I was young, I asked the same questions, but as you gain more experience you’ll notice subtle difference and preference between makers. Let’s try many brands.

That being said, which maker does nishifusa use? I’d like to share you some of my favorites, these are by no means correct materials and I’m still learning the medium.

Mainly I use Blockx. I love this color tint very much. This brand’s color arrangement match my works. That’s the main reason I choose blockx.

Blockx Artist Oil Colours are produced at a family estate in Belgium, using the finest linseed and poppy-seed oils. The latter prevents some of the cooler colours from yellowing over time, which many of our artists observed with other brands.

I give much weight to consistency of pigment and I lthink blockx is middle type.

Secondly I use Schmincke Mussini Oil.Colours they have vibrant colours, mixed well, very translucent, but anyhow too expensive.

This is an excellent paint for artists who like to work in glazes. The company offers a wide range of colors. Schmincke is also the only manufacturer to utilize the more traditional resin and oil mixture instead of pure drying oil, the paint to dry faster and more evenly on the support. It’s very useful.

I hope this helps you, I wish you can find your best choice!
